What are the Major Sports Organizations in Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix, Arizona fields professional sports team in the four major leagues–NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB. No matter the time of year sports fans are most always able to catch a game. The city also hosts a WNBA team, a professional soccer team, and professional golf tournaments.

Basketball

The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team founded in 1968 that play in the NBA’s Pacific Division. Their current schedule can be found at https://www.nba.com/suns/schedule. All home games are played in downtown Phoenix at he Talking Stick Resort Arena located at 201 East Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85004.

Phoenix is also home to a WNBA team—the Phoenix Mercury. The Mercury was formed in 1997 and was one of the original WNBA teams. The Mercury play in the Pacific Division of the WNBA. Football

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional football team founded in 1898 and are the oldest continuously run NFL team in the United States. The Cardinals were originally based in Chicago, moved to St. Louis in 1960, and finally settled in Arizona in 1988. They are members of the NFL’s National Football Conference West Division. The Cardinals play their home games at State Farm Stadium, formerly known as the University of Phoenix Stadium located at 1 Cardinals Drive, Glendale, Arizona 85305.

Hockey

The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team that play in the NHL’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Coyotes were originally named the Phoenix Coyotes but in 2014, the team renamed itself to the Arizona Coyotes. Baseball

The team plays their home games in downtown Phoenix at Chase Field located at 401 East Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85004. The Diamondbacks won their first and only World Series title in 2001—only four years after their inception.

Soccer

The Phoenix Rising is a professional soccer team and is a member of the United Soccer League. The team was founded in 2014. In 2018, the Phoenix Rising submitted a bid become one of Major League Soccer’s (MSL) expansion teams. The Phoenix Rising’s current schedule can be found at https://www.phxrisingfc.com/2019schedule. Golf

A golf destination city, Phoenix hosts several major golfing events. In late January/early February, the Waste Management Phoenix Open is played at the TPC Scottsdale located at 17020 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. Because of its relaxed atmosphere, the event is one of the most popular events PGA tour and is known as the “Greatest Show on Grass.” Additionally, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Founders Cup is held at Wildfire Golf Club at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa.
